Ray's love for 3D printing started the way most good obsessions do — a late-night YouTube rabbit hole, a borrowed printer, and the sudden realisation that he could actually make things that didn't exist before.
What started as tinkering in the back room grew into something more serious. Ray spent years learning the craft properly — understanding materials, tolerances, finishing, structural integrity and design principles. The kind of deep, hands-on knowledge that no course can give you.
It wasn't a business plan. It was just a passion that kept growing.
💔 The Injury That Changed Everything
A workplace accident set off a chain of events nobody saw coming. The injury led to a diagnosis of CRPS — Complex Regional Pain Syndrome — one of the most painful and debilitating chronic conditions a person can live with. Day-to-day tasks that most people take for granted became genuinely difficult.
Eventually, Ray lost his right leg.
"When your life changes that dramatically, you have two options. You can let it define you, or you can redefine yourself. I chose to keep making things."
Living with disability gave Ray something no brief or research report could ever provide: genuine firsthand understanding of where daily life has gaps. He knew exactly which tasks became unexpectedly hard. He knew where existing products fell short. And he had the skills to fill those gaps himself.
🚀 The Pivot to Purpose
What started as a hobby became a livelihood — and more than that, a mission. Ray began designing products he actually needed: grip aids, wheelchair accessories, daily living tools that gave back independence without requiring a prescription or a huge price tag.
